Mariah Carey has well and truly proven over time that she earned her place among the great divas…..Patti Labelle, Whitney Houston, Bette Midler, etc, etc.
All those girls have their own particular style – which make comparisons irrelevent. I’d be very surprised if they’d look at it as a singing competition – like a lot of the punters here do. I for one love listening to all of them.
Give the girl a break. She’s earned it.
Keep it real! Mariah as much as I dig her, doesn’t have the vocal chops of a Patti label. You can be technical all day, but Patti is the stuff legends are made of. In the genres associated with Pop, R&B, Soul and the like Mariah is great relative to her peers. I love her, but Patti is another level of singing performance. That’s like comparing Bruce Lee to Jet Li. Belt, chest, whistle…that’s all BS. Phrasing and character is what makes soul undefinable. Otherwise, it’s opera.

I like Mariah and all but even on a good day which this was she can’t “over take” Patti. It’s not so much that Mariah can sing higer notes than Patti. What it’s about is Patti’s voice is MUCH louder than Mariah’s and a belted chest note from a dramatic soprano will always drown out a whistle note. Simple facts. Nevertheless, Mariah and Patti get along very well and she does respect Patti. But Mariah isn’t known for being a powerhouse but her angelic voice.
From what I’ve seen, Mariah has way too much respect to over take the oldtime greats singers; plus she was singing at Patti’s concert. It would be extremely rude if she stole the spot light. Also the Vh1 concert with Aretha Franklin and all those other girls she didn’t overtake and go crazy…. like Celine Dione might I add
i love the duet but i dnt think mc was gonna do her wistle i dont think sh could hit ht high note but she seemed really happy and tht wat matters loe em both love mc

when mariah tried to hit her whistle at 1:36 you couldn’t even hear her, because Patti Is just untouchable. Truly sent from heaven.

i am a fan of mariah..i think its a good duet and a good song for the two of them…but i have a questio in mind…on the high part of this song the camera focus on mariah…and she looks like a horse,while her mouth is open and singing…jejejeje lols
